Showcasing new talent from Canadian fine artists

Jonathan Wiznuk

Fine artist from Ontario, Canada. Creating landscape paintings from imagination.

I have always loved art since I was a child. Drawing, painting and using imagination. Watching Bob Ross as a kid really inspired me, I loved watching the power to create worlds. The ability to command clouds to be fluffy and float accross the sky. To build mountains, to construct strong trees, forests and fantasy places of vibrant color. I tried my hand at pencil, portraits and more, but always came to settle into landscape arts.

Nature is healing.

Painting nature relaxes me.

:

1998: Started interior mural paintings at the Gateway Cafe Youth Job center around Pape/Danforth in Toronto Greek Town. Creating murals for the rooms of each job counsellor. Learning to build imaginary scenes using ordinary Latex House paint.

2013: Showcased my Waterfall of Color abstract series at Fairgrounds Coffee on Lakeshore Ave, Etobicoke. Sold a couple pieces and really enjoyed the opportunity to display my work in public.

2019 - Present: Painting landscapes with Acrylic at first but now my medium of choice is Gouache. I plan to learn some Plein Air painting and get outside this fall to practice some outdoor landscape painting. Creating my perception of what I see, instead of just from imagination.

Collection: Fall 2021

This fall season has been very productive and inspiring! Really starting to enjoy working with Gouache medium for my imaginary landscape scenery.

Gouache is very quick drying and allows me to work in layers quite rapidly. Without having to wait until under layers dry. But I have noticed that water reactivates the layer below, so blending comes very naturally with Gouache.

I have worked hard to learn effortless painting, avoiding the stress of fussing over tiny details. Allowing effects to occur naturally on their own. Relaxation is the key and truly enjoying the scene as it unfolds. Trees are my favorite since they are so individual and different. Full of variations in the bark texture, and their branches can grow on any angles they want. Nature can be messy and overlapping, intertwined. That's what I love about it.

Collection: Spring 2021

Last spring was following a cold winter. I was still working solely with acrylics at the time. I painted a few watery ocean scenes like Ocean Lighthouse and One Tree Island enjoyed painting some buildings/barns such as in Pink Sky Farm piece.

I greatly enjoyed playing around with more wet brushes to achieve the illusion of water. In fact, using water to paint water just made sense. In my opinion you can't paint water with a dry brush.

COVID-19 lockdowns were in full force and my painting really helped me escape and find some quiet time. Getting into a reflective mind space and virtually travelling to imaginary scenes created in my mind. Sitting back and looking into my paintings gave me a place to ponder, a place to drift, a place where the only limits were imagination.
